MARK REIHILL, "CAT SKILLS"

THE DUNADRY HOTEL, DUNADRY

Digital illustrator Mark Reihill has two passions – art and music, and this exhibition brings those two passions together with great results. His illustrations traverse the worlds of sight and sound, charting a journey through both a musical and artistic spectrum. From pop icons to rock legends and home-grown heroes, all are rendered in his own inimitable style. He has worked closely with rising stars Cat Malojian, designing their CD artwork and website and the band will give an intimate performance at this special Festival launch event.

Cat Malojian are singer-songwriter Stevie Scullion along with multi-instrumentalist siblings Jonny & Rachel Toman. The music they make is melodic & fresh, while hinting at sounds from a bygone era! They are building a solid fanbase in Ireland & beyond!

THE ‘STARBUCKS’ SESSIONS

Relax in the ambient surroundings of Starbucks at Junction One and listen to the acoustic sounds of local singers/songwriters in two special ‘Starbucks Sessions’ held throughout the Festival. A coffee to accompany the musical entertainment is a must!

In Session: Thursday 18 February - Justin Grant
Justin Grant is a charismatic Singer/ Multi-instrumentalist from Newry.  He has been performing in public from the age of fifteen, formerly as the front man of a locally acclaimed six piece band and currently as a solo artist playing all over Ireland and the U.K.  Justin is a prolific writer and has an extensive catalogue of wonderful melody driven contemporary songs of which fifteen are presented on his debut album " Break the Wing" , recorded at MADD House Studios and shortly to be released world wide on Mbop Global Records.

In Session: Thursday 25 February - Skin & Bones
Support from The Friday Night Music Club
Local musicians, Tommy McMeekin & Richard Magee, present a lively set of old favourites and original compositions from influences as far and wide as the Beatles, Tom Petty, REM and a little bit of everything in between. Support on the night comes from the participants of the Friday Night Music Club, showcasing their talents in a band specially formed for the Festival – miss it at your peril!

TEENAGE KICKS - ALL AGES GIG
CRUMLIN FOOTBALL CLUB, CRUMLIN

In association with the Oh Yeah Centre, Belfast & Crumlin Together

A first for both the 4 Corners Music Festival and its partners, Oh Yeah and Crumlin Together, this special ‘all ages’ gig brings the first week of the Festival to a highly anticipated close. Three up and coming, young, fresh and exciting bands present an energetic night for both young people aged 13 years + and those who are young at heart! Come prepared to enjoy yourself!

Headliners A Plastic Rose are purveyors of mid nineties post-hardcore tinged ‘Catchy Alternative Rock‘®, rooted firmly in late noughties peacetime Belfast, where they have been cutting their teeth on the northern front since August 2006 with Gary Lightbody even giving them a mention in his list of N.Irish bands to look for. They are ably supported by 2009 Winners of the Battle of the Bands at the Braid Arts Centre, Sethway, a pop punk rock group from Ballymena. Kicking the night off will be 3 piece, 2 girl and 1 boy, indie, electric pop trio, the Wonder Villains. This is a great chance to catch these bands before they become the next Snow Patrol!

United by their love of song, the Open Arts Community Choir is an inclusive choir featuring people with disabilities and those without, from ages seventeen to seventy and from every section of the community!

OACC have performed at numerous venues in the UK & Ireland, including the Belfast Waterfront Hall, Odyssey Arena, Liverpool’s DaDa Festival, and the International Eisteddfod in Wales. Winners of the 2009 Bangor International Choral Festival, they also made a huge impression on BBC1 in 2008 when they fought their way into the final 14 UK choirs in the hit TV show Last Choir Standing and have recently reached the finals of the RTE competition, ‘An Cor’ to be televised this March.  This evening will feature a selection of their wide ranging repertoire as featured in their first album, ‘Many Hands’.

The 4 Corners Music Festival draws to a close with a toe-tapping, foot stomping folk and blues finale headlined by the fantastically talented trio of sisters from Inishowen, Donegal, THE HENRY GIRLS! Following the twists and trails of the music wherever it leads and wherever the adventure unfolds, this stunning trio has burst onto the Irish music scene with their eclectic sound of blues, county and traditional world folk. Now onto their third album with numerous television appearances and an Irish Film & Television Award nomination for scoring the award winning Aidan Quinn film, ‘A Shine of Rainbows’ under their belts, 2010 looks to be the best year yet for this talented musical family – catch them now before they go global!

The Henry Girls will be supported on the night by Belfast born and now Dublin based ‘demon gadgie’ guitar playing Robin James Hurt and his band who will performing folk standards as well as his own compositions. As well as his faithful Martin guitar, Robin brings with him a unique re-interpretation of a wide collection of Scots, Irish and northern English folksong. Long fascinated by the history of the stories told in song from these islands, Robin collects these ballads and re-works their melodies and structures to make modern diffusions of the originals...traditional songs for the now.
Opening our finale event will be pop/folk trio, Cat Malojian, who will ensure the Festival finishes just as they started it, on a lively note!
